On weblog and starting something old
The year is 2026 and it is halfway through. I spent the better part of the first half of the year in decision paralysis. I wanted to write and share my writing, but the tectonic plates of the internet rapidly shifted. The rise of large language models and the means by which we train them has been discouraging. I believed that we would shun those who would vacuum others’ hard work as their own. My naïveté.
I was spinning and spending an inordinate amount of time planning how I could share and still protect my writing in this new age. I ended up not actually writing and devising elaborate plans with zero execution. I learned nothing from constantly realizing an hour had passed; an hour spent devising plans in my head and writing absolutely nothing. It was not until the passing of a writer whom I had never met and with whom I shared a past, that I snapped out of this loop. I managed to accept two things from this awful reminder of how powerful God is:
- Tomorrow is not promised, and
- My writing is not that special
